Patient education involves informing the patient on their disease, the disease process, the treatment options and what it entails. Patient education is a vital in order for patients to make informed decisions and to help the patient engage and follow up properly. During this rotation I worked with my site evaluator on patient education. I learned how to simplify my explanations so that my patients can understand and balance that with inclusion of all the necessary details my patients need. I also strongly believe when possible in using diagrams/images to explain disease processes to patients. I also discussed vancomycin troughs with my preceptor. I now know what a vancomycin trough is and how it is performed. My site visits went well and were educational.
